today was the day i finally got to go see an
ikea store. i was totally underwhelmed. i
dunno if it was the buildup of over 10 years of waiting to see one, or if my
tastes in furniture/design are past the ikeastage of design? my friend was
saying that ikea is kinda the cheap end of furniture - the
collegiate/post-collegiate trendy stuff, that isnt really the most sturdy or
high quality, but looks good. its like mass produced stuff too. i think that
also turned me off a bit. but man had i lusted after their stuff for the
longest time - ever since my friend p's roommate had some back in college.
the store itself was HUGE. 3 floors of hugeness and crowds of people. and
its like this big ole warehousey thing, but instead of warehouse store smells,
the scents of cinnamon rolls and swedish meatballs waft thru the place - they
also have a huge cafeteria, and since ikea is a swedish company, its all swedish
foodstuffs.
the cool thing that i did experience was a vendo machine that dispensed glass
bottles w/o breaking them! i bought a bottle of krystan regale sparkling pear
cider. YUMMERS!
ate some really yummers italian food tonite - great place called vita venita
or something. was one of the reasons for me to come back to chicago for a visit
... the food here is soooooo good.
